Guaranteed to get your heart skipping and mind racing… Awaken the senses and join the showcase for people and things in our amazing city. We’re thrilled to be hosting Sheffield’s 28th Pecha Kucha evening, curated by Jonny Douglas and Pennie Raven.
Each presenter is given 20 seconds per slide and just 20 slides to present their subject or showcase their ideas. Expect an inspiring, challenging and innovative approach to creative business. Pecha Kucha a truly different breed of creative meet.
This event is a kind of homecoming for both, us (The Mowbray & The Chimney House) and Pecha Kucha. We last worked together 8 years ago for Pecha Kucha’s first Sheffield event, and one of the very first events at The Chimney House! We’re thrilled to open our doors in partnership with Pecha Kucha for Volume 28 - ‘Make A Stand’.

Pecha Kucha - Sheffield & beyond!
Pecha Kucha, meaning ‘chit chat’ in Japanese, is a global, viral phenomenon now running in over 700 countries, worldwide.
The 20x20 format was first started in Japan 2003 by the architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham.
The thing that makes it unique is the patented 20x20 format - each presenter gets 20 slides, set to auto-advance every 20 seconds…making an evening of fast-paced, engaging talks that only last for 6minutes and 40seconds, giving the audience an experience like no other!
Since April 2010 Pecha Kucha have put on 27 events at 24 different venues across Sheffield from The Cathedral to Portland Works, the Winter Gardens to Queens Road Social, The Old Post Office - SIA to Tamper Coffee at Sellers Wheel; showcasing over 200 speakers; both ‘well-known’ and ‘as-yet-unknown’ talent. ‘The Sheffield Way’ they have developed over the last 8 years differs from a traditional PK Event; incorporating Live Music, Entertainment and Short Videos…and is all delivered by the Pecha Kucha team - giving their time and expertise for free, and the through in-kind sponsorship of venues, equipment and resources.
Speaker Line-Up :: Part One
Chelsea Saynor-Young, The Thaleia Project - a wellbeing and empowerment project for girls and young women, raising awareness of issues including ADHD and mental health issues and how they affect girls (and how the signs are different in boys), in order to improve support and promote self-care; through education, training and support.
It's Our City – a campaign to ensure all of Sheffield’s 84 councillors have a vote about what happens and can represent their constituents, rather than just 10 people currently deciding the fate of our city!
Matt Heason, Sheffield Adventure Film Festival - running a Patreon funding initiative to support the festival and what it stands for, help screen the inspirational adventure films in the city's schools to show the kids of Sheffield what's on their doorstep and can be accessed easily and freely, and Create a Young Adventurer Award for a local filmmaker.
Angga Kara, Men up North - an event / discussion series to have honest conversations around what it means to be a man in the 21st century...and start addressing the issue that 75% of suicides in the UK in 2017 were men and it remains the most common cause of death for men aged 20-49!
