A Celebration Supper & Kindred Times

What started as an idea for Bloom to take over our vintage trash can planters Up On The Roof for the Summer has blossomed into GROW - a dream collaboration and celebration supper to raise awareness and important funds for Bloom’s not-for-profit community flower garden in Heeley.

We hosted our first GROW Feast in 2021 - so we’re proud to present another chance to gather together to support Bloom in 2023 to share a sublime Feast with likeminded and kindred folk.

Bloom promotes positive mental health through therapeutic horticulture - providing weekly mental health groups designed to support women who need help managing their mental health needs. Led by Kendall Turner - Bloom uses the garden to provide activities and a safe space for women to take notice, get active and feel good.

A Feast - From The Garden

As ever -we’re taking full advantage of the season - and we’ll be diving straight into the beauty of English produce.

We’ll be presenting a rolling feast - which has been designed to be as close to nature as possible. Heavily inspired by the allotment we have had so many requests for vegetarian and vegan for this event - we've kept true to the original idea and have curated a wonderfully fresh, vibrant feast which not only looks beautiful on the plate - but gives a true taste of early Spring.

The Feast

Our Head Chef Emma has added some beautiful Kitchen Notes to our Feast - as this is truly a super seasonal vegetarian menu that is as pretty to look at as it is marvellous to eat!

Mowbray-made focaccia (v, ve, g)

Grilled leeks with house-made ricotta (v)

Confit parsnips with radicchio & orange dressing (v)

Kitchen Notes - British parsnips are deliciously sweet, and develop a delicious fudgy texture when confited - and pair beautifully with bitter radicchio and the tangy orange dressing.

Brussel sprouts with caesar dressing & crunchy bread (v, g)

Kitchen Notes - Not just for Christmas! Mustardy spouts are a perfect partner for a creamy, garlicky caesar dressing.

Walnut polenta with grilled broccoli, tomatoes (v)

Kitchen Notes - One of our favourite veggie dishes, and a big hit at our Sunday roasts! Earthy, toasty walnuts are so delicious with grilled broccoli, and the whole dish is finished with a healthy helping of Grana Padano cheese

Bedlam farm squash milanese with basil, parsley & capers (v, g)

Kitchen Notes - Bedlam farm in Cambridgeshire grows a fantastic variety of organic squash through Autumn & Winter. The season will be coming to an end soon, so it will be lovely to use them on this menu before they are gone! Prepared milanese style; so sliced, marinated and coated with toasted breadcrumbs & pan fried in butter. Finished with capers, lemon, basil & parsley - delicious!

Wild garlic & feta tart (v, g)

Kitchen Notes - The very first of the wild garlic in a creamy savoury custard tart, with punchy feta & flaky pastry.

Balsamic roasted Treviso with red wine risotto, finished with Pecorino (v)

Kitchen Notes - Treviso is a bitter leaf from Italy, and is absolutely stunning this time of year! The bitterness of the treviso contrasts beautifully with the sweet & tangy vinegar and the whole dish is made rich and hearty by the deeply flavoured risotto.

TO FINISH

Chocolate & Almond Torte with Amarena cherries & Creme fraiche (v, g)

(v) = vegetarian (ve) = vegan  (g) = contains gluten

The Bar

The Bar will be serving some beautiful garden cocktails - including our Bloom Cocktail which brings all the flavours of the cutting garden and allotment into a fresh, fragrant twist on the classic Pimm’s Cup with Mowbray Made Mint, Cucumber and Wild Flower Syrup - a percentage of which goes to Bloom Sheffield.

A Magical Evening

The Mowbray will be dressed and styled by Bloom - heavenly floral tablescapes and of course we’ll be dining by The Mowbray’s signature candlelight.

"We are so excited to be working with The Mowbray on this magical event. What an incredible way to raise awareness and vital funds for Bloom. A celebration to share experiences, food and stories is what it's all about!"

Kendall Turner, Founder of Bloom Sheffield

Over to Kendall

Bloom Sheffield is a community flower garden for women in Heeley. We promote positive mental health through therapeutic horticulture. We started in 2019 with a very overgrown allotment and some big ideas. Now, we welcome women each week into our garden to make friends, learn new skills and enjoy nature together as a community.

We run Gather & Grow Sessions twice a week for all women to attend, as well as weekly mental health groups. These groups support women who need help managing their mental health needs and we use the gifts from the garden to provide activities and a safe space for women to take notice, get active and feel good.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, so all the money we raise goes back into the garden and helps us keep delivering our groups and sessions to women in Sheffield. By supporting us, you are helping us provide more gardening groups and sessions which means women women can access our garden and reap the benefits of gardening as a community and spending time outdoors.

We are hoping this year is our biggest yet. We have recently taken a new piece of land that we are transforming into a community green space and we will be hosting lots more educational and creative workshops throughout the year.

Being a small organisation means that we rely on the kindness and generosity of our community to support our work and we are so grateful for every donation we receive.
