Children at
The Mowbray
-
Since opening we’ve welcomed hundreds of children to The Mowbray for family celebrations, Supper Clubs and family dining events and of course the most of magical times - wedding celebrations.
-
We’ve found it useful to let our guests know a couple of pointers about the building from a safety point of view before you and your family arrive to relax and celebrate with us.
-
The feedback we’ve had from parents is that this information is really handy in terms of understanding the space which helps with advance planning for your day and night with us - so we hope you find it useful to!
-
We have passed this information onto the person in charge of booking the event and signing our event terms and conditions (the event booker) - for them to pass onto you - the event booker understands that it is your responsibility to read, sign and send via email this document back to us at The Mowbray before you attend the event.

Essential to Know - Venue Safety
Your children are your responsibility for the duration of the event at The Mowbray.
-
The Mowbray is an old factory building - recently refurbished from 1889. The main room is one large open space. There are no separate rooms. We run a bustling and busy food and drinks service and often have a large number of guests and a large Front of House team to look after the event which means we cannot allow children to run around unchecked in terms of safety for your child and for our team who will be carrying heavy trays, plates and hot food.
-
The main room of The Mowbray has a corridor which leads through to a back entrance of the building, kitchen prep rooms, the main kitchen and the kitchen porter room. Back of House is incredibly busy and not safe for children to wander unsupervised in.
-
Please be aware that we have lots of furniture that is unsuitable for children; glass tables and valuable antiques in the building and as part of our signature style - we burn lots of candles on each level of The Mowbray.
-
The Mowbray has a top floor roof terrace - which we use in warmer weather for arrival drinks and through the event. This is an unsupervised space and children can not be left unattended either on the terrace or on the concrete and steel staircase that connects the ground floor with the first floor. This area of the building also has an emergency exit - which leads directly onto Burton Road a busy main road.
Essential to Know - Road Safety
-
The Mowbray is situated on 118 Mowbray Street and has a very busy road (Mowbray Street) to the front and a very busy main road (Burton Road) directly behind it. There is no speed control on these roads and unfortunately drivers do break the speed limit.
-
The Mowbray’s original factory doors open directly onto Mowbray Street and at times they are open all day and night. One of The Mowbray’s emergency exits at the back of the building leads directly onto Burton Road.
-
Please be sure to make sure that your child does not venture outside The Mowbray unsupervised onto Mowbray Street and Burton Road.
