Dine With Us

The understated splendor of the building - both inside and out has made this beautiful setting one of the most sought after urban venues in the region.

We love small but important touches - that all add beauty and ambience to what we do - including our own coffee blend that we use at our inner city cafe - Mow’s to custom artwork for both The Mowbray and The Chimney House - and a bespoke scent for the buildings.

The Mowbray is luxuriously historic with gentle styling and a story behind even the smallest item and touchpoint. The Mowbray way is holistic, intuitive and designed to completely look after every detail for you! 

We spent 3 years restoring this incredible space - originally built in 1889 and are proud to champion restoration, Sheffield craftsmanship, sustainable design and re-purpose of beautiful items throughout our interior which has been applauded and awarded over the years!

'Up On The Roof' you'll find our private first floor terrace for British blooms, complete with a gorgeous outside cocktail bar. Nestled between two buildings with a beautiful view out over the trees and skies of Neepsend - it is perfectly private and the place for all of the fun times! Up On The Roof is also included with each event - the perfect place for drinks and photography! 

A Note on our Menus

All of our menus are prepared in-house by our wonderful chef team! Everything is baked and made fresh on the day from our bread, cakes, cookies and desserts and we pickle, cure, roast and toast the finest ingredients from Sheffield and Yorkshire. 

We work 100% seasonally so sometimes we will need to change ingredients out for what is best and fresh - we’ll let you know if we need to tweak your chosen menu ahead of your event. We also cater for specific dietary requirements - just let us know and we’ll make it happen!

We usually host 5 hours at The Mowbray for a private dining event. Our typical start time is 7pm with last orders at the bar at 11.30pm. Depending on numbers we may need to discuss a hire fee.

Up On The Roof

Up On The Roof is found on our private first floor rooftop which was part of the original restoration of The Mowbray. It’s a complete hideaway escape with leafy green views over Park Wood Springs and the historic rooftops of Neepsend. Up On The Roof - comes complete with vintage chairs, Mowbray-made tables, parasols, a roof bar and a sound system from vintage Monitor Audio Speakers from the '70's!

The Roof Bar

Beautifully designed to sit against our sandy stone wall - our roof bar is fully equipped to keep the garden cocktails flowing! Set within picking distance of fresh herbs and edible flowers the bar is influenced by The Mowbray Kitchen so you’ll always find treats like wildflower syrup and roast strawberry and pink peppercorn gin starring on our drinks list.

The Roof Bar 'Up On The Roof' is included with each event at The Mowbray - weather dependent - and will be open pre-dinner and post dinner.

Our most popular request are custom name places -  beautiful hand scripted name cards written bespoke for you and your guests. Starting at £2 per card.

The feast starts with some tasty snacks & small plates and rolls straight into a delicious centre piece which includes artisanal Sheffield-made sausages! Choose from lamb merguez or Chorizo style! Piper’s Sausages have a cult following in Sheffield - a must have for any feast!

Menu 2 - HOUSE FEAST - £54 per person ex vat - £64.80 inc vat

The House Feast is an ode to all things flavoursome and delicious, with all the big Summer flavours! We grill, toast & blend our spice mixes & pastes to our own recipes which gives this real depth of flavour, with freshness from fresh herbs & citrus. This is an extra tasty Feast inspired by travels but made from scratch in The Mowbray Kitchens from the best of local and regional seasonal goodness we can find!

Curry leaf focaccia (v, ve, g)

Chargrilled coconut flatbreads (v, ve, g)

Toasted cumin raita (v)

Bhel Puri; a crunchy salad of chopped summer cucumbers, tomatoes & onions, crispy rice & cashews - dressed with green chilli, coriander & tamarind chutney (v, ve, g, contains nuts)

Plaice or Sole pakoras; a sustainably chosen white fish in a spiced batter with ginger & garlic

THE MAIN EVENT

Yorkshire lamb leg, marinated in spiced Longley buttermilk, and chargrilled on the bone, tandoori style. With chettinad curry sauce; fragrant with sweet spice masala, tomatoes & grated coconut

For our vegetarian and vegan guests; Vegetable roti; spiced vegetable roll with chettinad curry sauce (v)

SIDES TO SHARE

Seasonal green beans with garlic pickle dressing & toasted almonds (v, ve, contains nuts)

Gunpowder potatoes; British potatoes roasted with ghee, cumin & coriander, tossed with fresh coriander, spring onions and lime (v)

Menu 3 - THE SUMMER LADEN TABLE  - Starting at £50 per person ex vat - £60 inc vat

A menu especially for you! This Feast can be a totally vegetarian or pescatarian menu - or you can add meat or fish options on from below to create your own Feast perfection!

This is our signature menu and a real ‘food lovers’ Feast. The Laden Table  showcases the absolute best of the season. It includes some of our house made favourites and is by far our most popular menu and really showcases our chefs! It is an absolute treat for your guests - and epitomises a long lazy feast that goes so well with great guests and conversation! The Laden Table is also a complete feast for all of the senses as pretty as it is taste sensational! 

A collection of gorgeous ‘small plate’ style dishes using the best of the season, inspired by our supper clubs. This menu is all about using the wonderful produce available in the UK and  Organic suppliers around Europe - there may be some tweaks for seasonality & availability. The Feast will be served in a rolling style, so your guests can tuck in as the dishes land on the table. 

This menu is all about using the best produce we can get & creating unique menu for your event on the day - definitely the one for foodies!

This is your chance to create your own bespoke Feast! Add on your choice of Meat or Fish (or both) to The Summer Laden Table to make an unforgettable feasting celebration!  Expertly prepared using tip top locally sourced ingredients. 

The chosen dish(es) will be served in place of the ‘Brown Butter Cauliflower & Polenta’ for all guests, except your vegetarian & vegan guests, who will be served an individual portion of this dish. Supplementary dishes must be taken by all guests except for those requiring a vegetarian/vegan option.

PORCHETTA

The Mowbray Porchetta -  Yorkshire raised pork belly rolled around the tenderloin - seasoned with lemon, dried chilli, toasted fennel, rosemary & garlic. With marsala cream sauce and salsa verde.

WHOLE FISH

Roasted on the bone, or fillet if you prefer, with salsa verde & butter sauce. We’ll choose a fantastic fish from our Yorkshire-based fishmonger such as halibut, brill, wild sea bass or hake.

DRY-AGED BEEF

Dry-aged Picanha, chargrilled and roasted whole, sliced & dressed with chimichurri (a tangy dressing of coriander, parsley, oregano, chilli & red wine vinegar)

Picanha is a fantastic piece of beef, taken from the rump. It has a delicious layer of fat which keeps the meat juicy, but can easily be cut off by guests

Dietaries & Allergies: Some of our desserts can be made without gluten, on request - please ask. If you have vegan guests, or those who do not eat dairy or egg, the kitchen will make them their own dessert which is similar to your choice of pudding. If you have guests attending who have a nut allergy, we would advise choosing desserts which do not contain nuts, due to the sharing style of our feasts.

A selection of 4 of The Mowbray Kitchen’s most prized cheeses - including an English cheddar, Yorkshire Blue, a fantastic Goat’s Cheese & French Brie or Camembert. Served with all of the essentials -  biscuits, grapes, chutney & fresh figs (if available). Cheeses will be portioned ready for easy snacking!

Creamy Yorkshire Blue with Toasted Walnuts & Wildflower Honey

About this cheese: A mild & creamy blue cheese, made from Yorkshire Cow’s Milk by the girls at Shepherd’s Purse in North Yorkshire.

Tunworth & Roasted Grapes

Hampshire’s answer to Camembert, and don’t tell the French, but we think it’s even better. This cheese is still lovingly made by hand and offers a long lasting sweet & nutty flavour. The roasted grapes help to cut through the richness.

Artisan goat’s cheese, hard sheep’s & quince jelly

We’ll choose a stunning creamy goat’s cheese such as Dorstone, Cenarth or Golden cross and a nutty Sheep’s cheese such as Berkswell or aged Manchego- paired with sweet yet sharp and floral quince jelly. 

Artisan cheese plate & a glass of something special

Please get in touch about your bespoke cheese selection from Neal’s Yard Dairy, paired with a fantastic bottle from Starmore Boss. Price £tbc - minimum order will apply.

At The Mowbray and The Chimney House we do our best to cater for any allergies or dietary requirements. In order to do this we ask that you provide full and thorough information in advance of your event. 

When compiling this information please ensure your guests provide accurate information about their dietary needs. We need to know whether it is a severe allergy, a medical requirement or a preference so that we can make suitable adjustments. We may not provide a similar alternative where it is a preference, unless this can be catered for within the menu (see 'Plain Food' below).
