A Search for Colour
It is clear that colour has always had an intrinsic relationship with our culture and is woven into our consciousness. The story of colour maps a particular history through our cultural development — telling a much larger story about the way we perceive, value and cherish colour.
So as part of G.F Smith's colour review of Colorplan, they ask if there is a colour that best reflects our own time. Drawn to the idea of favourite colours, they wanted to see if it is really related to personal choice and style.
No longer constrained to local or national polls like previous historic studies, they decided to use their global paper partners and the power of digital to open out the question across the world: what is your favourite colour?
With submissions from over 100 countries, the ambitious online project quickly became the world’s largest ever colour study attracting responses from Azerbaijan to Australia. The insights that the study yielded, underlined that colour is as much about substance as it is about beauty.
